N:counta – For children aged 10-14

Started in January 2010, n:counta is our Thursday club for all young people aged between 10-14. Our aim is to equip young people for life while sharing something of the Bible with them. Although we meet at the same time as n:gage we usually run our own programme aimed the older age group. Sometimes we join with the younger group for a specific project - for example our joint spring project is to make a bird house. So we’ll join together to go out and about collecting all the things we need – visiting the occasional park along the way – and hoping our finished product will appeal to the local birdlife! !

Refreshments invariably feature as part of evening, whether we’re in the Scout Hut or out and about in the local community. Water/squash/hot chocolate and biscuits tend to be our favourite!! We often help out in making the drinks too!

While each night is different, we include songs, games, laughter, opportunities to make new friends, learn new skills and learn a little more about the Christian faith. Come join us and meet life head on!

Examples of the some of the things we do:
Learning – about the values of fun & friendship / about Looking Good / about Coping with Life (we check this stuff back to examples in the Bible)

Cooking – we recently cooked a 2 course meal for each other and the younger group (with some supervision and guidance from our leaders!!). Last year we served our mums a simple 3 course meal as a Mothers Day treat.

Parties – Chinese Theme with Chinese food/Pyjama Party with chocolate fountain!

Outdoors - Treasure Hunt around Lisvane/‘Mini Games’ challenge on the field behind the Scout Hut/BBQ/Sparklers and Hot Out & About – Bowling

Talks – from a Policeman about staying safe out on the streets / talk and practical demo on how to look after our bikes including mending a puncture, putting the chain back on and checking our brakes (we got a bit messy!!)
Crafts – Jewelry Making/Mothers Day Vases with fresh flowers/Keyrings

n:gage is part of Girls Brigade England and Wales but under a scheme operated by GB we are open to both boys and girls.

The subs of £1.50 goes towards covering costs of materials used by the company and annual fees (including insurance) per child payable to Girls Brigade England & Wales. (www.girlsb.org,.uk)
